It looks almost like an aggressive snub by the person who replaced the mirror toward the person who broke it last. “LET’S SEE YOU BREAK IT THIS TIME”.

Apparently mirrors for the Range Rover Evoque are not cheap.

Just checked (boring Friday at a bodyshop):
You could be out over $1800 for a blind spot/memory equipped mirror. And that’s just parts, you’ve still got to find someone to paint the cap, assemble the thing (sold in pieces, motor, mirror, housing, camera, turn signal, etc), and bolt it on the vehicle.
Edit: Dear God, I just realized he’s got that contraption padlocked on
both
mirrors. Rough neighborhood.

Ha! That would wind up being more than what I’ve spent on some used cars.

The thing is I really do not see that stopping his mirror from breaking, if anything it would cause more damage to the door as that cage goes flying. Do the mirrors not fold in on that car, I thought that was pretty much standard these days.

I never said it would stop his mirror from breaking - just that putting a frame and bubble wrap around it seems like an insult toward someone who keeps breaking mirrors. Like handing the guy who keeps hitting his head on a door lintel a helmet to wear inside the house - doesn’t actually help, but seems like it
could
and is a visible “YOU MORON” thing.
